Fall is Skin Season: Microneedling Now At Better Days Wellness
Something new is happening in the treatment room, and I am so excited to FINALLY say: microneedling is officially here! And while I’ve been waiting since I opened the doors to Better Days Wellness, like everything in life, it was meant to be now because the timing is perfect. In Chinese medicine, fall is one of the best seasons of the year to focus on your skin. Here's why…
Fall, the Lungs, and your skin
In TCM, each season is linked to an element and an organ system. Fall belongs to the Metal element and the Lungs. The Lungs govern the skin and pores, and they help spread moisture and nourishment out to the surface of the body. When the Lungs are happy, skin tends to look dewy, resilient, and bright.
Fall also brings dryness, which is this season's main climate challenge. You've probably felt it already: tighter skin, flaky patches, lips that need constant attention, maybe a dry cough the second the heat kicks on. Dryness goes straight for the Lungs and their partner, the skin.
Fall is also a season of letting go and turning inward. The trees drop their leaves, and we're meant to shed what we don't need and invest in what will carry us through winter. That's basically what microneedling does for your skin.
What microneedling actually does
Microneedling creates tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. Your body responds by producing fresh collagen and elastin, and the skin gradually rebuilds itself stronger, smoother, and more even. It can help with fine lines, texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and dullness.
It's the Metal season in skincare form: shed the old, rebuild the new, store up strength for the colder months.
Why fall is the best time to do it (even setting TCM aside)
Newly treated skin is more sensitive to the sun, so microneedling is best done when the sun is weaker and you're spending less time outside. Summer is tough for aftercare. Fall is ideal: gentler sun, less sweating, and cooler temperatures that make recovery easier.
Start now, glow by the holidays
Collagen doesn't rebuild overnight. It develops over several weeks, and the best results usually come from a series of treatments spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.
If you start in October, you can fit in a full series before the holidays. Many people notice a fresh glow within a week or two of their first session, and results keep building from there.
How I do it differently
This isn't a fast, in-and-out spa treatment. Because I'm an acupuncturist, I look at your skin as part of the whole picture: your constitution, your stress, your sleep, your digestion, and what season your body is moving through. Every session includes LED light therapy to calm the skin and support healing, with additional body acupuncture to help treat your body from the inside out. For optimal results, you can also pair microneedling with facial acupuncture or gua sha for a full facial rejuvenation plan.
Your fall skin support checklist
Help your skin between treatments with a little seasonal TCM wisdom: stay hydrated, eat moistening foods like pears, cooked apples, soups, and sesame, use a humidifier once the heat is on, wear sunscreen every day (yes, even in fall), and breathe deeply. Your Lungs will appreciate it.
