How Acupuncture Supports a Healthy Pregnancy

So we know that acupuncture helps to regulate our cycles, balance our hormones, and support us in our TTC journey, but once we are pregnant - then what? Can acupuncture still help? Should you keep getting treated? … yes and YES! Here are some ways that acupuncture can help support pregnancy and keep mama and baby strong and healthy for all 40 weeks and beyond:

  • Eases Nausea & Morning Sickness: It helps regulate the digestive system and calms the stomach, reducing nausea and vomiting, especially in the first trimester. That first trimester nausea is NO. JOKE. Weekly acupuncture appointments really helped me.

  • Relieves Aches and Pains: It addresses common pregnancy discomforts such as back pain, sciatica, pelvic pressure, and joint pain—without medication. My hips were screaaaaming the more baby grew - I always felt so much better after a treatment!

  • Supports Emotional Wellbeing: It balances hormones and calms the nervous system to reduce anxiety, mood swings, and pregnancy-related stress. I am *not* a ~chill~ person 24/7, but something came over me during my pregnancy that really helped keep me grounded. Was it the acupuncture???

  • Improves Sleep: It promotes relaxation and can relieve insomnia or restlessness common during pregnancy. It even helps with restless leg syndrome which is a common pregnancy symptom!

  • Reduces Swelling & Edema: It encourages healthy circulation and lymphatic flow to minimize fluid retention in the feet, legs, and hands.

  • Supports Digestive Function: It alleviates common issues like heartburn, constipation, and bloating. My baby girl came out with a huge head of hair and all the nurses asked if I had heartburn…. uh YA you can say that again! But acupuncture helped!

  • Encourages Optimal Fetal Positioning: Specific points can help gently guide breech babies into a head-down position (typically around 32–36 weeks). The earlier, the better! This way baby is smaller and has more room to move, but we usually see a lot of success with this!

  • Prepares the Body for Labor: In the final weeks of pregnancy, acupuncture can help soften the cervix, calm the mind, and encourage natural labor onset. — I HIGHLY recommend coming for acu in the last few weeks leading up to your due date.

  • Can Reduce Labor Time & Intervention Rates: Research shows that regular acupuncture in late pregnancy may lead to shorter labor and lower need for medical interventions.

  • Safe, Natural Support Throughout Each Trimester: Customized treatments evolve with each stage of pregnancy to support both mother and baby safely and holistically.

<— being vulnerable! This was taken moments right after giving birth… the most surreal, incredible, miraculous, out-of-body experience that just made me so in awe of what our bodies can do! I got acupuncture all throughout my pregnancy, and went even more often in the weeks leading up to delivery. Zero regrets!!!!

If you are pregnant and wondering if you should get acupuncture, don’t think twice! DO IT! I promise, it’ll help :)
